Health Programs and Regulations in Sacramento
Health care is an important concern in Sacramento. The City Council recently thought about adopting a resolution to regulate the hospital operations within the city. The Chamber of Commerce strongly opposed, saying that there were already federal and state regulations in place, and that inexperienced people without medical knowledge would end up creating poor standards in health care operations.
Sacramento also has a network of organizations called the Golden Gate to Health Insurance Network to ensure that families have access to health care and health information. Another program is called the San Francisco Health Plan, which helps lower-income families get the insurance that they need from programs like Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Healthy Kids & Young Adults and Healthy Workers.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, UC Davis is thinking about creating a graduate School of Public Health. There is a growing demand in the field for specialized workers, and a school would help meet the growing public health needs of Central Valley residents. The huge agricultural industry and growth of the population in the Sacramento area sparks a need for this program. If the idea is approved, a recommendation to the university would be made in September, and the program would be launched in about three years.
